Are you Ready for Typhoon Related Emergencies?

The Philippines has always been one of the top 10 places where typhoons are regular and the norm. Filipinos know for a fact that the country is constantly being battered by storm after storm after storm. There’s nothing that would faze the country more than a super typhoon that would be reported by typhoon Philippines today weather reports and see the path of destruction.

So while they are not fazed or scared with typhoons that is ready to batter their area, Filipinos do not underestimate what these typhoons can do. While they are not intimidated by strong winds and constant water dripping down their rooftops, they are also not oblivious to what they need to do. But in case you need a refresher on all things typhoon and what you need to prepare after hearing the Philippine weather today, here’s a guide on what to do and what to bring.

Necessities

In case of emergency evacuations due to storms and typhoons and areas, it is important to bring a “survival pack”. This pack should contain all the necessities that you would need to survive either for a day or even a week in the evacuation area. First, you have to understand that the evacuation centers in the Philippines is way different from the ones you see abroad. We’re not here to judge but the centers abroad are truly equipped with everything people will need for their stay. In the Philippines, due to lack of budget or problems with local government, people are relocated to basketball courts and are just given blankets.

To compensate for that horrendous condition, your pack needs to contain several articles of clothing, a good amount of canned goods, a first aid kit, blankets or anything to keep you warm and water. If you are traveling or evacuating as a family, it would be good to pack based on the number of family members. The best practice is also to divide everything neatly so that every member of the family has something to carry going into the evacuation center.

Listen to authorities

One of the reasons why people survive scary typhoons in the Philippines is because they listen to authorities. Of course there are still a few exemptions to the rule but generally speaking most Filipinos listen to police and evacuation volunteers. If these brave men and women appear in your doorstep before and during a typhoon, it would mean that its time to go and drop everything. Your life is more important than your house.

Stock Up

Not all typhoons would require you to flee your home. There are some that will just require you to stay indoors and be ready for anything. If that would be the case and there’s no warning from the local government, then just stay inside and stock up. If the warning is done before the bad weather hits, then you can make the necessary preparations and buy all the things that you would need. So what are some of the things you need? Skipping the “survival bag” we mentioned earlier, you also have to have a transistor radio, power banks to charge your devices, food and water. If there’s a family member that’s sick, be prepared with his or her medication. Be ready to stock up on those too.

Why Weather Reports Still Matter in the Summer

Philippine summers are known for being the worst times for Filipinos. It’s just hot and everybody can’t escape it. Whether you’re in Luzon or Visayas or Mindanao, you can be sure that the heat will follow you wherever you go. Despite all this though, its still important to have a sense of what the weather would be like and as such you need weather forecast today to be able to get an idea what the temperature could be.

While we all know that it would be sunny the whole day as long as its summer, there are still small things that you need to look out for. For starters, just because its summer doesn’t mean that its going to have a constant temperature. The truth is, summer temps can fluctuate. Filipinos have even developed a sense of humor over the climate and the temperature. While other countries say “its nice in the morning, ok in the afternoon and cold in the evening”, Filipinos during the summer time would usually comment that it’s “hot in the morning, hotter in the afternoon and hottest in the evening”. Although, just to be clear, that’s not always the case.

So you may be taking this lightly there’s an air of seriousness afoot when it comes to Philippine summers and the climate in general; and why its imperative that you check in on weather forecast Philippines from time to time.

Avoid Heat Related Injuries

One of the worst things that can happen to anybody during the summer is suffering from heatstroke. In a nutshell, your body shuts down because of the heat that you body has absorbed. There’s an entire scientific explanation for that but that would take a while. So, again, heat stroke can be deadly if not taken seriously. This is the reason why during heatwaves in other countries, the homeless people or the vagrants are gathered up by local authorities and are given a temporary place to spend the day away from the deadly heat. Checking the weather forecast would give you an idea on how much long you can stay under the sun before you get sick from all the sunshine bombarding your body.

Temperature Related Things

You need to check the weather forecast for you to be able to make sound decisions for your business. If you own a bunch of different business establishments that react to heat, then you may need to keep the climate and temperature in constant check. If you have an ice cream business, you need to prepare for extreme heat especially if you have people selling icicles and popsicles in various areas. The same thing also happens when you run a fruit business or any business that will require a person to stand in the heat for long periods of time. We really don’t want people passing out from all the heat or worse, suffering from sunstroke.
